Mutual Aid Book Discussion
Presented by NoMi Neighbor Network, LEAP, Northwest Michigan DSA, The SALT Coalition, and Beloved 360
Join a coalition of local organizations to discuss mutual aid, and how you can start practicing it in your daily life.
This is a discussion on mutual aid, using Dean Spade's book "Mutual Aid" as a reference point. We encourage you to get a copy or listen to the audiobook, but even if you haven't read the book at all, if you are interested in mutual aid you are welcome to join us.
The event will take place in the McGuire room of the Traverse City library (the room to the left right after you enter). Doors open at 9:30 with coffee and refreshments, and the discussion will start at 10am. They then plan on 2-hours of discussion ending at 12 noon, but there will be time to socialize afterwards with a pot-luck lunch.
This was organized as part of a collaborative effort between the following organizations: NoMi Neighbor Network, LEAP (Local Education & Action Partnerships), Northwest Michigan DSA (Democratic Socialists of America), Beloved 360, and the SALT Coalition (Spiritual Activists Leading Together).
Join in to learn together, build new relationships, and deepen the cooperation and solidarity of existing ones.
Regardless of who you are or where you come from, if you're interested in building community and mutual aid, you are welcome!

National Writers Series: Suzanne Mettler
At a time when political division feels deeply entrenched, we wanted to share an upcoming community conversation that speaks directly to the work and values we care about.
On Saturday, January 31, the National Writers Series will host Suzanne Mettler, senior professor at Cornell University and co-author of Rural Versus Urban: The Growing Divide That Threatens Democracy, at the City Opera House (with a livestream option). The event will explore why political divisions between rural and urban America have intensified over the past several decades—and what that divide means for the future of our democracy.
Mettler’s research gained national attention following a widely shared interview on The Ezra Klein Show, where she discussed how economic shifts, trade policy, and political organizing reshaped party coalitions across the country. Her work offers important context for understanding where we are now—and what it may take to move forward.
Traverse Indivisible members are invited to attend, and a $5 discount is available using the code Divided when purchasing tickets. (for in-person tickets only)

ICE Out For Good Protest
On January 7, 2026, ICE agents shot and killed Renee Nicole Good, an unarmed American citizen and mother, in Minneapolis. More than 20 people were killed by ICE or died in ICE custody in 2025 alone. Just this week (1/8), two more people were shot by ICE in Portland.
This is not public safety. This is state violence.
Join Traverse Indivisible and communities nationwide for a rapid-response rally demanding accountability and an end to ICE terror in our cities. ICE OUT FOR GOOD!
WHEN: Sunday 1/11, 12pm-2pm WHERE: Civic Center, along front street towards downtown
What to bring: - Wear all black in mourning for Renee and all ICE victims - Signs: "ICE OUT FOR GOOD," messages about ICE violence, due process, rule of law - Noisemakers and your voice, be ready to chant and get loud - Your presence—bear witness and stand in solidarity
What to expect: This is a peaceful protest rally, not a silent vigil. We'll line Front Street from the Grand Traverse Civic Center stretching toward downtown. Join anywhere along the route. Some may march, some may stand, the most important thing is showing up.
Our demands to lawmakers: - Stop funding ICE while they terrorize our communities - Get ICE out of American cities - Accountability for those who kill with impunity and justice for the victims of ICE violence
Ample parking at Civic Center and the surrounding area stretching towards downtown. Carpooling encouraged.

Good Trouble Assembly @ Social Security
Good Trouble Assembly Please reference Trump’s 2021 January 6th Insurrection and related assaults to people and democracy on your signs. We can be the memory keepers. Lots of American flags and the Blue Line Flags. Co-opt the blue line flag.
The paved pedestrian pathway adjacent to Division can accommodate lots of people. Bring your friends! Share widely!
Drawing on the history of non-violent insistence we stand together to insist on rule of law as the bedrock principle of our constitutional democracy, and the Constitution as the central document encoding our social operating system.
Ti Social Gathering & White Elephant Party
Deck the Halls with Democracy & Deliciousness!
In times like these, we need each other more than ever, and what better way to connect than over pizza and questionable holiday fashion choices? Join Traverse Indivisible for our annual holiday gathering where we'll celebrate the most important thing we have: our incredible community of changemakers.
This isn't your typical holiday party (though the ugly sweaters are absolutely encouraged). We're coming together to share some festive cheer, enjoy holiday fun designed especially for Ti members, and remind ourselves that hope is best served with good company and hot pizza.
Here's the scoop:
When: 5-7pm
Where: Tank Space on 8th Street, Traverse City
What to expect: Great people, better conversations, and an informational table for anyone curious about our work
Bring a friend! Especially if they're interested in learning more about Ti , because democracy is always better with backup.
Optional but fun: Bring a wrapped White Elephant gift if you're feeling generous (no pressure – your presence is the real present). And please, dress in your favorite holiday garb or ugly sweater… we're talking full festive commitment here!
We'll provide the pizza (while supplies last.) You bring the holiday spirit and maybe that friend who's been asking what we're all about.
Please register ahead of time. It helps us order the right amount of pizza, and nobody wants to be the person who shows up to find only sad, empty boxes.
Let's spread some festive cheer and remind ourselves that even in uncertain times, we've got each other. And pizza. Mostly each other, but also pizza.

Keep Dollars Local
We enthusiastically support the National Economic Mass Blackout (Nov. 25–Dec. 2) and offer the Keep Dollars Local campaign as a complementary, community-first solution: a strategic pathway for citizens in smaller towns to participate in economic resistance by directing all spending toward local businesses, thereby protecting their main streets from the negative impacts of a full blackout in an already challenging economy, but still allowing them to participate.
Vigil for Grief and Loss
A diverse coalition of community members are coming together for a “Vigil for Grief and Loss” to gather, honor, name, and tend to the many forms of loss members of Traverse City are living through together.
WHAT: This vigil is coming together from a diverse coalition of community led organizations and concerned citizens. We will hold this vigil to create space for the communities’ grief rooted in both the personal and the collective - losses born from the systems and histories that continue to shape our present. Attendees will hear from people directly experiencing loss such as the loss of life in ICE detention centers, the loss of food security as SNAP benefits are cut, the ongoing loss and theft of Indigenous land and the loss of safety for our LGBTQ+ brothers and sisters, to name a few. We will build community through song and collective action.
WHO: Spiritual Activists Leading Together (SALT), NoMi Neighbor Network, MidEast Just Peace, Traverse Indivisible, The Solidarity Organizing InitiativeAnd more!
WHEN: Monday, November 24th, 6:00 - 8:00 pm
WHERE: Medalie Park, 1910 West South Airport Road, Traverse City, MI 49686
WHY: Many in our community are feeling some form of grief right now and we want people to know their grievances are all connected and they are not alone. In recognizing these interconnected griefs, we also root ourselves in solidarity and collective care. We know that tending loss together helps us expand our sense of "us" and create a resilient community. All are welcome.
